Frequently asked questions

What is a theme detector?+

A theme detector is a free tool that analyzes any website's public code to identify which platform (CMS) it's built on — like Shopify, WordPress, Wix or Squarespace — and which theme or template it uses, including the theme name, version and author when available.

How does the theme detector work?+

Enter a website URL and we fetch the page exactly like a browser does. We then scan its HTML for platform fingerprints: Shopify exposes its theme details in a JavaScript object, WordPress reveals its theme in stylesheet paths, and other platforms leave their own unique signatures. Everything happens in seconds, no signup needed.

Which platforms can it detect?+

We detect Shopify, WordPress (including WooCommerce stores), Wix, Squarespace, Webflow, BigCommerce, PrestaShop, Magento / Adobe Commerce, Drupal, Joomla, Ghost, Framer, Salesforce Commerce Cloud and Shopline. For Shopify and WordPress we also identify the exact theme.

Is the theme detector free?+

Yes — completely free, unlimited checks, no account required.

Why does it sometimes say a theme is custom?+

Many successful stores start with an official theme and then heavily customize or rename it, and some are built from scratch by an agency. When a theme isn't listed in an official theme store, we tell you it's likely a custom or third-party build.

Can a website hide its theme?+

Partially. Site owners can rename their theme or strip some fingerprints, but the platform itself is usually still detectable from asset URLs and page structure.
